Heritage Banners are on display again!

This week South Kintyre Development Trust revived The Campbeltown Connections Heritage Banners which have been stored in the Burnett Building for a number of years.

They were the creation of a group of local enthusiasts who saw similar banners on a trip to Ireland and depict pictures and tales of local interest including “Cave Painting”, “Machrihanish Light Railway” and “Jet Necklace”. Many of the metal fixings for the banners are quite high and have become detached through time but this didn’t put off the keen volunteers from Kintyre Youth Enquiry Service (KYES) and South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) who fearlessly re-instated as many as practicable around Campbeltown town centre.

SKDT Trust Manager Zena Coffield said “We are very proud of our heritage in Kintyre. It’s not just about where we are, it is who we are and these banners help tell our story. We are grateful to the original Campbeltown Connections group who had the insight to develop these banners and also to Morag McMillan, Stuart King, Mathew Ross, Samuel Clements and Lesley Renton for their help putting them up.”
